KidzSearch 1st Annual Short Story Contest

KidzSearch is having our first short story writing contest! Three winners from different grade categories will be selected based on outside votes, but also the KidzSearch judges opinion. With permission, each winning entry will be featured as the KidzSearch 2015 Writer of The Year and featured on our homepage with a news press release about it. In addition, a $100 Amazon gift certificate will also be awarded. Finally, the winning stories will be included in a future KidzSearch bound publication containing a collection of our winning yearly entries.

Open to grades K through 12. Three $100 prizes will be awarded based on grade level.

Grades: K-5
Grades: 6-8
Grades: 9-12

Your creative short story can be on any subject and must be original by you only. Please try to keep it under 1,500 words. Just register for this forum (requires parent/guardian approval) and place your entry in the Short Story Contest category. Last day to enter is December 31, 2015. The winning story will be selected on this forum by Feb 28th, 2016. Second and third place winners will also get an honorable mention.

Please do not include your real name or any identifiable contact information in your submission. Unless you give us parental permission, all press releases and public displays of your work will only include your pen name to keep anonymity. All entries must be in English, but are open to all countries. Include your age and grade level at the top of your short story. Please see our terms for additional details.

Judging will be based on creativity and writing quality.

Kidzforums  was the first kidzsearch social network and early predecessor of what would eventually become Kidztalk. The forums ran from 2005-2006, back then kidzsearch was new and didn't have many users. The most users ever online was only 10, on 4/30/2005.  Despite its small size, I can see from the captures that the forums were a small community that had potential. 35 captures are all that's left of kidzforums on the internet archive. Since only the home page was captured, all 7 topics and 11 replies in the community have been lost to time. By June, the question received over 100 answers and was gaining traction. Kitty111, inspired, wanted to create a post that would serve the same purpose, except, of course, that it would be geared towards girls. " WE GONNATO WIN THIS FOR THE GIRLS!!!!!!! " was born. Suddenly, Nathans's question was under threat. Immediately, the boys established it as theirs and an all-out kidzsearch war would be the result. The boys laughed and mocked the girls, but just six hours later, Kidzsearch moderators deleted unnecessary answers to Nathans's post, bringing the number down from 101 to just 26.  ...
